Just a few days prior to its newly inaugurated "PA Giving Day", Phillips Academy is welcoming another type of giving - the time, treasure, passion and ideas of its Alumni Council, which convenes bi-annually to spend time with students, faculty, staff and trustees while advancing alumni engagement initiatives.
On Thursday, May 4, 2017, Alumni Council members will again have the opportunity to dine with PA seniors at the Senior Alumni Dinner, followed by a cocktail reception in the Underwood Room with guest, Bing Broderick ’81, Executive Director of Haley House.
On Friday, after a hearty Commons breakfast, members have the option of attending English classes with current instructors, diving into the Archives and Special Collections at the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library or catching up on admissions and financial aid matters with Jim Ventre '79, Dean of Admission and Financial Aid. Then, after a luncheon with Dean of Students Jenny Elliott '94 and the opportunity to visit with College Counseling, members will commence their regular meetings at 2 PM in the usual location, Kemper.
In the evening, members will join John G. Palfrey, Head of School and Peter L. S. Currie '74, Head of the Board of Trustees in dedicating the Barbara Landis Chase House. Following this, members will head to the old hockey rink by the cage for a dinner hosted by the Trustees to say farewell to a number of departing faculty as well as outgoing Alumni Trustees.
The legendary after party picks up where dinner (and early risers) leave off -- at the Andover Inn; count on beverages, forging new connections, and the occasional appearance of late night pizza.
By 8:00 AM on Saturday morning, with the previous days' memories still fresh as well as nutritious and restorative Commons vituals, members will find they have plenty of energy to launch into their individual committee meetings at 9:00 AM followed by the closing all-council meeting at 11 AM. The official Alumni Council weekend is capped off with a luncheon that will feature two student speakers, Olivia Lai ’20 & Vish Dhar ’19.
Alumni that wish to can remain on campus to cheer Big Blue in a number of weekend sporting events as well.
